Greetings Wardog Families,
As many of you are aware Oklahoma has moved to an A - F Accountability system of all public schools in our state. The new A - F Report Card is more meaningful and transparent to parents and community members. The new system includes four major categories: 2012 Student Achievement, Overall Growth, Bottom Quartile Student Growth & Whole School Performance.
A major emphasis of the new Accountability System is the measure of student growth. Schools are now scored on student improvement on State OCCT exams from one year to the next. The state believes, and we agree, that students should show increase on test scores each year they are in school.
It is our desire to keep parents informed of their child's academics progress and needs. You can click on the link at the top of this web page to see a copy of our report card. Please take time to look at each category and the resulting sores/grades. While our overall score is a 2.66 which is a "C", we are less than 1/10th of a point from becoming a "B" school which is 2.75. With that in mind we are not satisfied with our grade. Our goal is to be an outstanding middle school with top notch academics.
In our efforts to realize our goal we are taking many steps to improve our overall score. One is our Flex Remediation Program. The Flex Program promotes good grades while providing an avenue for students to get extra assistance in the core subjects or to get help with their homework. We are also using the Accelerated Reader program to promote and encourage reading. We have developed an incentive program for students who earn A.R. points to spend their points on rewards.
Our teachers are working very hard this year on using data for targeted student assistance. Teachers are assessing student performance on a weekly basis and using that data to adjust instruction. We are excited about the new academic programs we have started this year. We believe that they will have a positive impact on this spring's OCCT exams.
Education is most effective when parents and the school are working together for the common goal of educating students. Some children will need extra help at home completing homework or practicing skills/content they may be struggling with. They may need your help to reach the academic standards adopted by the State of Oklahoma and Miami Public Schools. Education is a shared responsibility between students, school, and parents. We are counting on and appreciate your support! If you have any questions about the Report Card I would love the opportunity to visit with you.

Justin Chase, Principal
